At Thorsen Chiropractic, our initial goals are to get our patients out of pain. Period. Eliminating pain and discomfort will often times set the stage that allows our skilled clinicians to further evaluate musculoskeletal function and its contributory role to the generation of injury. Pain control can consist of many facets, but usually involves the elimination of inflammation and muscle spasm/guarding, restoring proper biomechanical joint mobility and creating a physical environment for patients in which they are not afraid to actively pursue movement changes (elimination of fear-avoidance behaviors).

This can be accomplished through a number of different manual therapy techniques. They include:

  • Chiropractic Adjustments/Joint Manipulation
    • Chiropractic Adjustment.jpgHelps to restore proper motion and mobility to the joints of the spine and extremities.
    • Provides muscle relaxation through neurological and biomechanical means.
    • Allow for “neuromuscular reset” to be achieved – Think of this as restarting a slow-running computer. The body has a chance to “step back” from a condition or state and regain function.
    • Inhibits pain. Again, through neurological and biomechanical means.
    • Techniques Utilized: Diversified, Drop, Activator, SOT Blocking, Cox, Muscle Energy, Strain/Counter Strain
      • We believe an adjustment should never be forced and should be delivered with just enough effort to make the necessary correction.

  • Massage.jpgMassage Therapy
  • Our doctors integrate soft tissue manipulation techniques into their treatments, as they feel appropriate for patient recovery. We also have massage therapists on staff for those cases requiring more extensive soft tissue therapy.
  • Techniques Utilized: Deep tissue, Medical Massage, Fascial Manipulation (FM), Myofascial Release, Active Release Techniques (A.R.T.), Rolfing.

  • Physiotherapy and other Manual Therapies

      • Cervical, thoracic and lumbosacral mechanical traction

      • Electrical Muscle Stimulation (IFC)

      • Flexion-Distraction Therapy
      • Structural and functional taping (athletic tape, kinesiology tape, leukotape, etc.)

Our physicians and rehabilitative specialists are certified and trained to give you a proper functional evaluation, create an effective and efficient individual exercise prescription, and help guide you, as it becomes a part of your lifestyle.
    • We truly believe that exercise and movement correction is no different that brushing your teeth or showering. In order to reap the benefits of the activity, they need to become a regular habit.   • Nutritional Counseling
    • Dietary choices, supplementation and nutritional suggestions can be overwhelming. There’s just so much information (and pseudo-information) everywhere today that it’s often times hard to know where to begin. We can help. Dr. Thorsen and Dr. Baker are both good nutrition pays.pngformer athletes and coaches, having given evidence-based nutritional recommendations to athletes, children, adolescents, adults and elderly individuals. As chiropractic physicians, Dr. Thorsen and Dr. Baker are both licensed as primary-care physicians in the State of Oregon, allowing them to provide accurate dietary recommendations to assist in recovery from injury, as well as performance enhancement.     • Our philosophy with nutrition is much in line with our beliefs behind exercise and activity modification. “Diets” don’t work. “Diets” don’t work because all too often people start them and give them an end date.
